Our field trip to the Nahant Marsh was very fun. I learned a lot of things that I did not know before. I saw many different types of plants, such as Black-Eyed Susan’s, Spider Warts, Canary grass, Milkweed leaves, Cattails, and grass that was 6ft tall. Also, I learned that a very long time ago, there was a gun club there. They ruined the marsh when they practiced shooting, so they had to close up. It took over $2,000,000.00 for them to fix up the marsh and clean it all up.

We also saw many different types of animals on the marsh, too. We saw a dead muskrat that a bunch of flies were sitting on. We thought that a Grey-Horned Owl probably killed it. We also looked through some microscopes and out in the water, we saw some snapping turtles. They were really neat! Bob told us that in the Nahant Marsh there is 5 different species of turtles. We got to see a real turtle egg, but a raccoon had gotten it, and it was broken into 2 pieces. I learned that at the Nahant Marsh, the turtles there like to lay their eggs in the sand. The people at the marsh like Bob, Renae, and Dave are going to put up some more turtle rests for the turtles. Also, when we were looking through the microscopes, we saw a Grey-Blue Heron! I saw it stand in the water, and reach down its beak and try to catch a fish.

I liked looking at the different types of trees, and plants when we went on a trail, and Bob showed us around. There were a lot of different kinds of them. We saw Box Elder Trees, Mulberry Trees, and many other different trees. We even saw Poison Ivy!!!

I also thought it was fun going out on the dock, and seeing if we could catch anything in the water with our nets. I mostly got dirt at the bottom, but I thought it was fun even though I didn’t catch anything.

I really liked going to Nahant Marsh, and I learned a lot of information, too. I can’t wait to visit there again!!
