June 13, ACAP traveled to the University of Iowa. When we first got there we went on a scavenger hunt. Our group, group 4, was one of the three groups that won.
Brianna Byrd, who works at ACAP, won an award from the University of Iowa and she has also received the Daily Iowan scholarship.
Then we met two people that work on the Daily Iowan, Jason Brummond and Erica Binegar. Brummond is 22 years old. He is the editor in chief and he hires the staff for the newspaper. He started his career covering the Hawkeye football team. He covered football for about 3 to 4 years. Then he became the sports editor. In high school he didn't plan to be a journalist until his junior year.
Erica Bingar is 21 years old. Her job is to assign all of the articles and then she helps to edit them. Every day she has to meet with Brummond at 4:00 to figure out which articles will go on the front of the page. Binegar graduated in 2003 from Central High School.
We learned that the Daily Iowan has one of the best college newspapers in the country. It was a very interesting trip and we all learned a lot.
