Steve Knoche has been the athletic trainer here for 23 years. He
has seen six head football coaches come and go.
"Knoche has been here for so many years and knows what he's doing," student
athletic trainer Zach Schreiner, "he's an inspiration to me."
In high school Knoche played freshman football, and realizing that it wasn't for
him, decided to become the student athletic trainer.
Knoche attended Iowa State University with a major in history, and a minor in
education and political sciences. Throughout college Knoche worked as the
student athletic trainer for ISU. Working as the student athletic trainer he
docked enough hours that he could take the certification program, to be
certified as an athletic trainer.
Today, Knoche is the head athletic trainer for all sports at the school. He has
seen many injuries from a jammed finger to the worst, a dislocated ankle; where
the leg was straight but the ankle was at a 90 degree angle to the side.
"Ankles seem to be the thing that gets injured the most," Knoche said.
"The best part of the job is when somebody gets hurt, you get to work them
through the rehabilitation and see them go back out and play."
